Today was another travel day. Instead of driving the car, we drove onto a ferry and sailed to San Juan Island.
The Washington State Ferry authority made it quite clear to us that even though we had a reservation to go from Anacortes to Friday Harbor, if we did not get to the toll booth at least an hour before the scheduled departure, we could be left behind.
So, we got there extra early. The waiting area was very organized, and the sun even came out to keep things comfortable. A little nature trail next to the dock helped keep us occupied.
The ride over to Friday Harbor took about 1.5 hours, with one stop at Lopez Island along the way. It was really cold out on what they call the ‘pickle deck’. There are two prongs at the front of the ship, with the vehicle ramp in between them. The pickle decks are on these prongs.
We found our B&B, The Tucker House, to be around 3 blocks from the ferry dock. The house is part of about a one block complex of old homes that have been converted into charming rooms. Ours is in the main house and has a balcony facing the harbor. We can hear the ferry come and go, and we can watch seaplanes and light aircraft flying in and out of the area.
Sunday nights around here seem pretty quiet and there were not a lot of restaurants open. We found a little pub down the street from us and had some salmon pate and clam chowder. Karen washed hers down with a ‘dark and stormy’ cocktail.
You can tell we’re getting close to Halloween here in town.
After 10 days on the road, it’s time for laundry. So, I’m typing up these notes in the living room while our clothes are in the dryer.

How fun to watch the seaplanes !
